Islington Community Choir
This was my first jump into choirs. A friend of mine asked me to run a singing crash course workshop, and at the end of one a lady said ‘We were talking in the break, and we don’t really want it to end.’ It was so sincere and abrupt I really didn’t know what to say! After a bit of backing and forthing, we came around to running a weekly singing workshop and calling it the Islington Choir. I had no idea what I was doing….
…Since then we’ve moved home about 8 times, been pirates for world book day. Been on residential trips away and many lunches, Kareoke nights, big band events and Christmas parties! It’s grown into a real community of singers.
The age of this group is a bit younger on average than the regular community choir, many 20-30 year olds (and guys!) But I feel like we have a wonderful cross section of ages and really enhances the richness of community.
Here’s a clip of us with Hackney Harmony, performing a song by Lea Morris.
Islington Community Choir run as a drop-in choir on Sundays and if you want to know more find us here
